Have you outgrown your brand? Why “fine” branding is holding you back

When you look at your brand, does it make you feel proud? Or kind of disconnected? Or just… “meh”?

Your brand visuals aren't bad. You might even have had them designed by a professional.

It’s fine.

Your brand does the job.

You’re not super embarrassed by it.

Sitting in that neutral space makes you feel like you’re doing alright. Changing things up feels unnecessary. Maybe even indulgent. So you stay in your comfort zone - the place where you know how it feels. And that’s where the danger lies.

When your brand is fine, it keeps you playing small.

If your brand feels fine, is that actually good enough?

The difference between fine branding and aligned branding

There’s a big difference between your brand feeling fine and your brand feeling aligned

I’d like to compare it to when I was working in a corporate job. I wore the corporate outfits, looked the way I was supposed to look. Professional, neutral, safe (and above else bloody boring). I looked fine. And I felt… fine.

Now that I work for myself and can wear whatever I want (and no, that’s not pjs all day), I feel thrilled! I choose loose, colourful clothes with retro patterns and bold graphics, because that’s what makes me feel good. It makes me hold my head up high.

Your brand feeling fine, might be because it was professionally designed. It might be because your logo is clean and clear, or your colour palette is harmonious.

But when your brand feels aligned, it feels like an extension of you. It’s much more personal. It reflects your current level of expertise and matches the way you want to grow your business.

Fine

  • Functional

  • Professional

  • Safe

  • Neutral

Aligned

  • Energising

  • Intentional

  • Expressive

  • Magnetic

You can see how a brand that feels fine isn’t pushing you. It doesn’t stretch or elevate you.

When your brand feels aligned, wow, all of a sudden you want to get out, meet new people and show off this incredible business you have built.

How misaligned branding affects your confidence and visibility

When your brand is ok it will be much harder to show up with confidence. You might be thinking, but I AM showing up. You talk about your business, post ALL the time on social media, you might even go to networking events.

But HOW are you showing up? With passion and pride? Or with a feeling of ‘I have to do this’.

One of my clients came to me because she wanted to grow her business. Her branding was ok, but it didn’t make her talk about her business with confidence.  Others perceived it as small - a side hustle - even though it was far from that.

She had all these big ideas for her business; an online community, more in-person classes, a website with all these different sections.

But she couldn’t imagine how that would work, because her brand didn’t feel right. It didn’t make her feel that that was possible.

After we created an aligned, magnetic brand, she became a different person when speaking about her business. She’s full of energy and passion, drawing people in with her excitement.

When you feel a strong connection to your brand you don’t just show up. You show up with magnetic presence.

Signs you’ve outgrown your brand

You started your business and although you were super enthusiastic, you might not have been super clear on a lot of things. You worked with everyone. Took on every job. You said yes to everything.

That’s perfect, because now, a couple years on you’ve gained confidence, knowledge and expertise. You’re not starting from scratch, you don’t need to reinvent the wheel.

But you have changed.

You’re now much clearer on who your ideal client is. What work lights you up. What values you want your business to portray.

You’ve grown in so many ways - if you’re anything like me, you’re nowhere near the same person you were when you started your business. And most likely your business has changed too, your offerings, your processes and most likely your prices.

When your branding doesn’t change with you, it keeps you stuck in that start-up phase. It keeps you feeling small, it’s not reflecting your capabilities and isn’t giving you the confidence that you do have.

Rebranding isn’t so much about your logo looking outdated - it’s about it feeling outdated.

Why rebranding is a strategic decision, not a cosmetic one

As women, we’ve been conditioned to play small, to accept that fine is good enough. To be grateful that things are ok.

Sadly, it’s the way the patriarchy works.

Want to have it all? = “That’s not practical”.

Want to actually enjoy the work you do? = “That’s not realistic”

Want to stand up for your values? = “You’re so dramatic”.

I’m not here to start a revolution - but I do want more than just fine. I want YOU to want more than ‘it’s ok’.

Wanting your branding to feel aligned when it’s ok can make it feel like it’s ‘a nice to have’. Something that you don’t really need. Investing in something that isn’t completely broken - because it still does the job, right?

What if we looked at your business feeling “like you” as a strategic move? All of a sudden it feels justified, a logical decision. It’s practical, realistic and not at all dramatic.

What happens when your brand finally feels like you

When you finally get your hands on that ‘Oh my gosh… this is SO me’ branding. Many things change.

If you’ve been planning to reach out to bigger businesses for collaborations, all of a sudden you feel like you can. Because your branding looks like the business you want to build. Instead of feeling, ah, I’m not quite ready for this, you think , of course they’d want to work with me - look at how amazing my brand looks!

You show up consistently with confidence and a magnetic energy that makes you hard to ignore.

Rebranding for female founders who are ready for the next level

After reading all this, you might think: Yes! I need a rebrand! I’ll find all the inspirations, latest trends and we’ll put a new pretty brand look together.

This is where strategy comes into play. Instead of finding a pretty colour palette on Pinterest, let’s start with the shift you’ve made.

We’ll ditch the trends.

Instead we need to chat about your business. What makes you unique? What is your purpose? And what do you want your audience’s first impression to be?

Let’s create a clear direction for your brand, a visual compass. One that makes it easy to choose a colour palette that translates your energy.

Having clarity on who you are now - and why your current branding feels fine but not amazing - gives you the tools to create brand visuals that feel aligned.

Conclusion

Your brand doesn’t have to be broken to be outgrown.

If you’ve read this and felt that quiet “this is me” moment - trust it.

Alignment isn’t indulgent. It’s strategic.

When your brand reflects your current confidence, certainty and ambition, everything else becomes easier: showing up, pitching, growing.

If you’re ready for branding that feels aligned instead of just fine, I’d love to explore what that could look like for you.
