Last month I created branding and bespoke brand illustrations for God save the SERP. And what an amazing project it was to work on, I’m still buzzing from it!
Kerry from God save the SERP came to me with the request to update her branding and create some bespoke brand illustrations. Her business was growing from being ‘the Kerry show’ to a team of SEO experts. That meant a change of name and with that came a new look.
The main thing we bonded over was our love for bold colours, not being too serious and creating something true to who you are. Some of the things that Kerry loves are old-school 90s technology and 90s punk pop. Being a 90s kid myself I absolutely loved this and after reading her questionnaire answers and having a creative direction chat I was bursting with ideas.
Logo concepts
I put on the ‘Blink 182 radio’ playlist and started jotting down my ideas. From troll dolls to floppy disks to pop rings - it honestly was so much fun drawing it all out. Having a very strong creative direction really helped with creating three logo concepts that I loved. I know Kerry picked her favourite, but out of the three I’m still not sure which one is mine.

Colour palettes
Kerry had a colour palette that she loved and had previously created with a lot of thought behind it. I took her colour palette and tweaked it slightly to make some colours pop more and add a bit more contrast between them all. I did also create two other colour options for Kerry, but it was safe to say that the tweaked palette was still her favourite.

Bespoke brand illustrations
Illustrating is one of my passions so being asked to not only create brand illustrations just makes my heart sing! They just really lift your brand to the next level, show your appreciation for creativity and just add that extra dimension to your look. I’ve written a whole blog post about why illustrations are so important, which you can read more about here.
Anyways, creating 90s inspired illustrations with a fun element was the brief. So I created three concepts; 90s technology, 90s toys and wacky fruits. Being a business with a strong link to computers and technology Kerry chose the 90s technology concept.

Brand style board
Once we were clear on the logo, colour palette and illustrations I started designing submarks, font combinations and adding colour to the logo and illustrations. We went on to tweak all the designs a little bit, but because Kerry’s design brief and direction was so clear there weren’t a lot of changes.
From there I put the brand style board together. The brand style board is a quick and easy way to make sure you are using the right colours, fonts and your overall look stays on brand. As a wee extra I added in some secondary illustrations/icons.
Testimonial
Here is what Kerry had to say about working together:
"Emmelie is an awesome designer. Her brief process is A* and she asks all the right questions to get to know your brand at a deeper level. Her designs were exactly what I wanted but wasn't capable of producing myself. Her processes and systems are also fantastic - you're never left wondering what's going on with your project or when a deliverable will be due. She delivers extremely high quality designs you'll love and is really dependable and reliable."
